The dual-currency model, plainly
Sweepstakes casinos are not online casinos. They run on promotional sweepstakes law, which is why they operate in states where real-money gambling does not.
Why there are always two
| Currency | Typical name | What you do with it | Can it be redeemed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Gold Coins, GC | Free play. Entertainment only. | No. Never. |
| Promotional | Sweepstakes Coins, SC | Enters the sweepstakes | Yes, above the floor |
| Variants | LC, TC, WC, FC, CC | Same as SC under a different name | Yes, floor varies |
Consideration, chance, prize
A lottery in United States law requires three elements: consideration (you pay), chance, and a prize. Remove any one and it is not a lottery. Sweepstakes casinos remove consideration — the promotional currency must be obtainable free, which is why every operator here maintains a postal entry route.
This is why you are never required to buy anything, and why “no purchase necessary” appears on every page. The purchase option exists because post is slow, not because it is the only way in.
It is also why the rules differ by state. Washington and Idaho treat the model more strictly; operators generally exclude them rather than argue.
Five steps
One. Register. The welcome package lands immediately in most cases, within a day in the rest.
Two. Play the promotional currency through once, or twice at the two operators in this ledger that require 2x.
Three. Reach the redemption floor. Fifty SC at most operators, a hundred at Chumba, LuckyLand and ThrillCoins, 1,200 FC at Fortune Coins.
Four. Verify. Identity document and proof of address. Do this early; it is the main cause of slow first payouts.
Five. Request redemption. Median times in this ledger run from seven hours to three days.
